Alastair Proud
Born in Dublin and, from a very early age, Alastair
developed a keen interest in nature and painting.
Some of Alastair's bird paintings were shown on his
favourite television programme 'Amuigh faoin spéir'
when he was 11 years old.
Having completed his schooling at St. Andrews College,
Dublin he went to Britain and then to Art College
in Wales. While at college he submitted work which
was selected for The Society of Wildlife Artists annual
exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. Alastair
was elected a full member of the society in 1985 and
has exhibited with them for over 30 years.
In 1990 Alastair was commissioned to paint all the
birds of prey and owls of the British Isles for a
book published in 1991 by David and Charles. Such
was the success of this book that a further book on
wildfowl was commissioned and published the following
year. Some of the other titles that have Alastair's
paintings in them include 'Drawn to the Forest', published
by The Wildlife Art Gallery in 2000, and 'The Woodcock,
artists impressions', published by Swan Hill Press
in 2006.
His paintings can be found in private collections
worldwide including over 40 paintings in the collections
of the Sultan of Oman.
